The moment you were born, the Sun, the Moon and every planet stood somewhere very particular in the sky, and they have never stood in quite that arrangement since. A birth chart is a map of that moment. People have been reading it for about two thousand years, and it is still one of the loveliest ways there is to look at yourself: as a portrait rather than a prediction.

What to do with it
Start with the big three and read them slowly. Most people recognise their Sun straight away, feel slightly caught out by their Moon, and only understand their rising sign when a friend reads it aloud and laughs. That is roughly the right order to get to know a chart in.
Then look for the one line that surprises you. A chart is most useful where it names something you had half noticed and never said, and least useful as a verdict. Nothing in it is fixed or bad: a square is friction you learn from, Saturn is a teacher rather than a punishment, and every chart has both.

How exact is this?
The positions come from a modern astronomy library that works to a small fraction of a degree for any date from 1800 to 2100. Your birthplace’s historical time zone and summer time are taken into account, so a birth in July 1985 in Utrecht is read in Dutch summer time. Houses use the Placidus system, the one most astrologers use, and the North Node is the true node.
Do I need my birth time?
No. Without it you still get your Sun, your Moon and every planet in its sign. The time adds your rising sign, your houses and your chart ruler, and it settles the Moon on the days it changed sign. If you don’t know it, a birth certificate often has it, and a parent sometimes remembers more than you expect.
What is the big three?
Your Sun, your Moon and your rising sign. The Sun is who you are becoming, the Moon is what you need to feel safe, and the rising sign is how people meet you before they know you. Together they are the quickest honest summary of a chart.
Is this the same as my horoscope?
A horoscope in a magazine usually uses only your Sun sign. A birth chart is the whole sky at the minute you were born, so two people with the same Sun sign can have very different charts, which is why yours may fit you better than any horoscope has.
What happens to my details?
Everything is worked out in your browser. We don’t receive or store your birth details. The people you add are remembered only in this browser, so they are still there when you come back.
