Read your year and then look back at the last one. Most people recognize the previous number more easily than the current one, because hindsight is generous, and that recognition is what makes the current year useful: you are in a cycle, and the cycle has a shape.

How is a personal year number calculated?
Add the digits of your birth day, the digits of your birth month and the digits of the current year, then reduce the total to a single number from one to nine. A birthday on 15 May in 2026 gives 1 and 5, plus 5, plus 2 and 0 and 2 and 6, which comes to 21, and 21 reduces to 3. This calculator uses the year of your most recent birthday, because the personal year turns on your birthday.
When does my personal year change?
On your birthday. Some numerologists count from the first of January instead, and both traditions exist. Counting from your birthday keeps the year personal, which is the point of the number, and it means the weeks before your birthday belong to the year that is finishing.
Are some personal years better than others?
No. A four year builds, a five year travels, a seven year thinks, a nine year clears. Each one is good at something and asks for something, and the years people dread on paper often turn out to be the ones they are most grateful for afterward. Knowing the number helps you spend the year on what it is for.
