Some questions want one word. This draws a single card and gives you the lean that goes with it, yes, no or maybe, along with the line of reasoning behind it, because a bare yes with nothing underneath it is worth about as much as a coin.
The lean is always about your side of a question rather than about what somebody else will do, and where a question asks for something the cards cannot see, the honest sentence comes first rather than last. That is the whole of the method, and it is the same one the longer readings use.

What to do with it
Ask the question the way you would say it out loud, draw once, and read the reason rather than only the word. If the answer disappoints you, notice that, because a disappointing yes and a relieved no both tell you what you were hoping for, and that is usually the more useful piece of information.
Then take it to a longer reading if it matters, or leave it there and go and do something else with your evening.

Can tarot really answer a yes or no question?
It can give you a lean, and a lean is a way of looking at your own side of something rather than a forecast. No card knows what another person will do, whether an offer is coming, or how a test will turn out, and anybody who answers those with a confident yes is guessing and charging you for it.
What does a maybe mean here?
Usually that the card is describing something still in motion, or something where the answer waits on a piece you have not looked at yet. A maybe is a reason to ask a smaller question: not whether it will work, but what the next honest step would be.
