If you have noticed that the person you are dating now looks a lot like the last one, with a different name and the same way of going quiet on a Thursday, you are not imagining it, and I do not think it means anything is wrong with you. Why do I keep attracting the same type of person is one of the most honest questions people bring me, and it usually has a calmer answer than the one the question is bracing for.
The short version is that you are probably not attracting anyone. You are recognizing someone, very fast, because something in you learned a long time ago what closeness feels like and goes looking for that exact feeling. That is a habit of recognition, and habits of recognition can be updated by the person who has them, which is you.
Why the same type keeps showing up
Think about the last three people you felt a strong pull toward. I would guess the pull did not come from a list of qualities. It came from a feeling in the body on the first or second evening, a small lift that said oh, there you are, and it felt like chemistry.
A lot of what we call chemistry is familiarity wearing nicer clothes. If you grew up reading a mood across a room before anyone spoke, then a person who is slightly hard to read can feel like home, and a person who is simply kind and clear can feel oddly flat at first, as though the volume was turned down. Nothing is wrong with the kind person. Your sense of normal was calibrated somewhere else, and it needs a few more evenings to adjust.
What the pattern is usually protecting
Patterns that repeat are rarely random, and they are rarely foolish either. When I look at the ones people describe to me, most of them are guarding something quite reasonable: a wish to be needed, a wish to stay free, a wish not to be the one who asks for too much.
If you tend to choose people who are busy, distant or only half available, it can be a way of keeping closeness at a safe temperature, because someone who is only half available can never fully disappoint you. If you tend to choose people who need rescuing, it can be a way of being valuable without having to ask for anything yourself. Neither is a flaw of character, and each was once a clever solution to a real problem. It is allowed to retire now that the problem is smaller.
How to see your own version
Take a piece of paper and write down the first three weeks of your last three relationships, only the first three weeks, and only what you did and felt rather than what they did. Most people find that the endings differ and the openings are nearly identical: the same intensity, the same pace, the same moment where a quiet doubt was noticed and set aside because the feeling was so strong.
That moment is where all of your leverage is. You cannot change who walks into the room, and I would not try. You can change what you do at the point where you notice the doubt, and a small change there, repeated, rearranges a surprising amount of what comes after.
It also helps to notice what you told yourself afterwards. Many people describe the end of each relationship as a surprise, and then, when they lay the three openings side by side, find that a small part of them saw the shape early and kept quiet, which is not a failure of intelligence but a sign of how much that first pull was asking them to look away.
What the cards can honestly offer here
The cards cannot see who you will meet next, and I would be guessing if I pretended otherwise. What a reading does well is your own side of the table: what you are carrying in, what you have gotten used to, and what you would ask for if you believed asking was allowed.
If you want to look at it with a card in hand, you can pull one on the reading page in about three minutes and ask it where you tend to lean in, and if you would rather start from the style of closeness you reach for, the attachment style quiz asks about your last few weeks rather than your childhood.
A slower kind of interest
Here is the experiment I would offer. The next time you meet someone who is kind, clear and a little bit dull to you, give it three more evenings than you normally would, and watch what happens to the flatness. Often it is the feeling of a nervous system that has stopped bracing, and it can read as boredom for a while before it reads as peace.
You are not obliged to fall for the calm person, and nobody should talk you into it. The point is only to find out whether the thing you called a spark was ever more than a quickened pulse, and to make that choice with your eyes open rather than with your history running the evening.
If you want a companion for the thinking, attachment styles explained kindly goes into where these habits come from, and am I good enough is for the nights when the pattern turns into a verdict about you.
What would you like to look at
Pick the shape that fits the question. You can change your mind at any point before you draw.
Before we start
Twenty seconds, feet on the floor, hand somewhere warm. Breathe in while the circle grows and out while it settles. You can skip this whenever you like.
What is on your mind
In your own words, as much or as little as you like. You can leave it empty and simply draw.
Your cards
Laying them out now.

You have already done the hardest part, which is noticing that the story has a shape. Everything after that is only choosing a different Thursday, one at a time, and I would love to hear how the first one goes.
