This is the full moon calendar 2026 and 2027 in one place, every full moon with its date, its time and the old name for that month’s moon, followed by the new moons, so you can plan an evening at a window a year out if you like planning that far ahead. I keep a version of this list taped inside a kitchen cupboard, which tells you how I feel about it: it is a clock you can see from the doorstep, and I like knowing when it is going to be bright.
The times are UTC, so readers in America should subtract four to seven hours depending on their zone and the date, eight on the Pacific coast in the winter months, and a moon listed just after midnight UTC is the evening before for you. If you only want to know what tonight looks like, the moon phase page draws it as it is and gives you the next two dates without a table.
Full moon calendar 2026
There are thirteen full moons in 2026 rather than twelve, because May has two, and the second one on May 31 is a blue moon by the ordinary definition, which is simply the second full moon in a calendar month. It is not a different color and it does not do anything special; it is a quirk of a twenty nine and a half day cycle sitting inside a thirty one day month. There are also two lunar eclipses in 2026, a total one in March and a partial one in August, and I have marked them in the table.
| Date | Time (UTC) | Name |
|---|---|---|
| January 3, 2026 | 10:04 | Wolf Moon |

Full moon calendar 2027
There are twelve in 2027, one a month, with no blue moon and no lunar eclipse worth staying up for. The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the September equinox, which is why it keeps that name in both years, and some almanacs call the September moon the Corn Moon in the years when the Harvest Moon falls in October instead. Neither of these years needs that footnote, so I have left it out of the table.

New moons in 2026 and 2027
These are for the dark half of the month, for anyone who uses the new moon to begin things. August 2027 has two, which some people call a black moon, and which needs nothing from you except to notice it.

What a full moon is actually good for
Finishing is the plainest answer I have, and the one I keep coming back to. The full moon is the bright end of the month, the point at which whatever you started at the dark end has either come to a head or visibly has not, and it is a good night for saying which. An ending that happened months ago and has not yet been admitted, a project everybody has quietly walked away from, a version of yourself you stopped being two winters ago: these are what a bright night is for, and twenty minutes at a window with a pen is the whole of the equipment.
It is a poor night for deciding anything at speed. Everything feels louder at a full moon, partly because everybody is looking up and looking makes things bigger, so if you find yourself wanting to send the message or hand in your resignation at eleven at night under a bright sky, write it down and read it at the half moon instead. The research on the moon and behavior is thin and mixed, and nothing here depends on the moon doing anything to you. It depends on you turning up once a month on a date you have known about since January, which is a good deal more dependable than waiting for the mood for reflection to arrive on its own.
The names, for what it is worth, are farmers’ names and hunters’ names, mostly from North America and old Europe, and they describe what was happening on the ground in that month rather than anything the moon was doing: worms in the thawed soil in March, strawberries in June, the sturgeon running in August, the last cold nights in December. I like them because they keep the moon attached to the year rather than to anything grand, and because Beaver Moon is a hard thing to say solemnly.
How to use the calendar
Put the next date in your phone tonight, with the time worked out for your own zone, and in the note write one thing you would like to have finished by then. That is the whole system. When the reminder goes off, the three full moon rituals are short and need nothing you do not already own, and the full moon reading draws three cards, for what has come to a head, for what has become clear since the dark half of the month, and for what is ready to be set down. Two weeks later, at the new moon, the new moon piece is for the other half of the month, the part where nothing has started yet.
If the date lands in the middle of a bad week, skip it without guilt. Look up once from the doorstep, go to bed, and let the table wait for you. The next one is in the full moon calendar 2026 table above, or the 2027 one, and it comes around in twenty nine days whether or not you were ready for this one.
What would you like to look at
Pick the shape that fits the question. You can change your mind at any point before you draw.
Before we start
Twenty seconds, feet on the floor, hand somewhere warm. Breathe in while the circle grows and out while it settles. You can skip this whenever you like.
What is on your mind
In your own words, as much or as little as you like. You can leave it empty and simply draw.
Your cards
Laying them out now.

Twenty five bright nights across two years, and you only need to keep one of them a month. Come back after the first one and tell me what you said at the window.
